How to Use City Libraries
The municipal libraries, including Chiyoda, Yonbancho and two branch libraries, house a total of over 230,000 books. While anyone can use these libraries, check out is limited to those who are registered at the city libraries.
Check Out: To check out books, please apply for a library card by showing identification which shows your name and address. You can check out up to five books at a time for two weeks. (Check-out periods can be extended for up to one week for books that are not reserved, providing notification is made before the initial due date.)
Chiyoda Library

Open Hours: From 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM from Monday to Friday, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturdays. And from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sundays, national holidays, and from the 29th until the 31st of December.
Closed: the fourth Sunday of each month, during inventory period (once a year), and New Year Holidays (from the 1st until the 3rd of January).
Yonbancho Library

Open Hours: From 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturdays. And from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sundays, national holidays, and from the 29th until the 30th of December.
Closed: the first Sunday of each month, during inventory period (once a year), on the 31st of December, and New Year Holidays (from the 1st until the 3rd of January).
Shohei Library (Shohei Domu-kan)

Open Hours: From 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM from Monday to Sunday, and from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sundays. Closed: the second Sunday of each month, during inventory period (once a year), and New Year Holidays (from the 1st until the 3rd of January).
Kanda Library (Kanda Sakura-kan)
Address: 2-16, Kanda-Tsukasamachi-
Open Hours: From 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM from Monday to Sunday. And from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM from the 29th until the 30th of December.
Closed: the third Sunday of each month, during inventory period (once a year), on the 31st of December, and New Year Holidays (from the 1st until the 3rd of January).
Other Libraries You Can Use
National Diet Library
Address: 1-10-1, Nagatacho

This is the national library of Japan, housing all books published
in Japan and serving as a database of books in print. This library
also houses an extensive range of books in foreign languages, including
some 2,260,000 foreign books. The library is open to those aged
20 and older; reading rooms and photocopying services are also available.
Hours: 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for reading rooms. 9:30 a.m. to 4:00
p.m. for photocopying service (same day copying).
Closed: Sundays, national holidays, Saturdays (except first and
third), the Mondays following the first and third Saturdays (the
following day if those Mondays are holidays), during the New Year
holidays and inventory period.

National Archives

Official documents related to governmental administration since
the Meiji period (1868 A.D.-1912 A.D.) and the Cabinet Library
are housed here and open to the public. Rare Japanese and Chinese
books which have been passed down since the Tokugawa Shogunate,
as well as Japanese and foreign books collected during the Meiji
period can be found in the Cabinet Library. Open to those aged
20 and older, this library provides reading rooms, photocopying
and research services.
Hours: 9:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays (last entry at 4:30
p.m.)
Closed: Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, and during the
New Year holidays
Metropolitan Hibiya Library
Address: 1-4, Hibiya-Koen

Located in Hibiya Park, this library is well known for its extensive
collection of magazines and newspapers. It houses some 1,100 different
magazines that have been published in the last four years and 170
different newspapers. There are also some foreign newspapers and
magazines.
Hours: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays
and holidays)
Closed: The first Thursday, first Saturday, third Sunday and during
the New Year holidays

Ishikawa Enterprise Foundation
Ochanomizu Library
Address: 2-9, Kanda-Surugadai

The Ochanomizu Library is a private library that covers the themes
of “Women”, “Living” and “Practical use”.
Geared especially for women 20 and over, the library has about 600
titles of magazines (with about 60,000 issues in total) and about
40,000 volumes of books. Through the reference materials in the
library, you can trace the footprints left by women in the Meiji,
Taisho, Showa and Heisei eras, and learn about the lifestyles of
each period.
It is open for use by men for research purposes. However, reservations
are required.
Hours: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (last entry at 4:30 p.m.)
Admission: ¥300 (including tax)
