Notification of Pregnancy and Mother/Child Health Handbook

When you find out that you are pregnant, submit the Notification of Pregnancy to the Chiyoda Public Health Center (Tel: 3291-3641) or the branch office nearest you. If you have an inkan (stamp), please bring it with you. When submitting the Notification of Pregnancy, you will receive the Mother/Child Health Handbook (available in English and other languages) in which your pregnancy, childbirth and the infant’s development will be recorded as well as the Mother/Child Health Bag which contains a guidebook on pregnancy and childbirth, the Pregnancy and Health Checkup Card and the Report of Birth Card. The bag also has a “Baby in Me” badge that lets others know of your pregnancy.


Subsidies for Children’s Medical Expenses

The medical expenses which are usually borne by guardians will be subsidized for preschool children by Chiyoda City Office when the treatment and medicines are covered by health insurance. Health Checkups for Infants

Public health centers provide free health checkups for 3- to 4-month-old infants, 18-month-old infants and 3-year-old children, as well as consultations on children’s health (on a reservation basis), in addition to health care instructions. City designated medical facilities also provide free health checkups for babies aged 6-7 and 9-10 months old. When you come for these checkups, please bring the notice mailed to you by the public health center. For more information, contact the public health center.

Dental Hygiene Consulting

Designed for infants, school children and pregnant women, public health centers offer dental checkups and instruction in prevention and early detection of cavities and periodontal disease. For more information, contact the public health center.

Immunizations

In order to prevent infectious diseases from spreading, a variety of vaccinations are administered, including for polio, DPT (Diphtheria/Pertussis/Tetanus), measles, rubella and Japanese encephalitis. The immunization card is mailed to applicable children and they are able to receive shots at designated medical facilities. For more information, contact the public health center.

Both Chiyoda Public Health Center and Chiyoda Public Health Center Kojimachi Branch provide health-related consultations as well as examinations, including chest X-rays, urinalysis, blood tests, blood pressure checks and other tests. These public health centers also provide those health checkups needed for enrollment in school or employment.

Birth Month Health Checkups

In order to ensure early detection and early prevention of lifestyle-related diseases, the Chiyoda City Office offers no-cost health checkups for Chiyoda residents aged 40 and above (for those not receiving the regular age-designated health checkups). These checkups are conducted at city office designated medical facilities once a year.

Cancer Checkups

As part of a cancer prevention program, the Chiyoda City Office offers Chiyoda residents lung (40 years old and older) and breast and uterine (for females 30 years old and older) cancer exams at designated medical facilities on a commission basis.
